Planning wallpaper removal
Check how the paper is bonded and allow for repair of damaged facing or adhesive residue.
Options and tradeoffs
Removal methods depend on the paper, adhesive and wall beneath it. A small test area helps compare careful stripping with more extensive surface repair and avoids promising an immediately paint-ready wall.
How to scope the work
Protect floors and fittings, test the removal method and work in controlled sections. Remove adhesive residue, repair damaged facing and prepare an appropriate primer before evaluating the wall under its future lighting.
Comparing estimates
Ask whether the price covers multiple paper layers, adhesive removal, torn drywall facing, skim coating and final painting. Define an allowance or change process for hidden damage revealed during removal.
After the project
After repainting, allow the new system to cure before cleaning or attaching wall accessories. Keep a record of repaired areas and investigate bubbling or peeling rather than covering persistent adhesion problems.
